Focus
Central issues in the call are how to close ecological cycles, reduce environmental impact, improve animal production and enhance efficiency of processes throughout the production chain. The emphasis is on developing aqua-, agri- and horticulture in our part of the world, but with a comprehensive global and societal approach.
The research projects should be transdisciplinary and implemented in collaboration with the public stakeholders and sectors concerned. Interdisciplinary projects with elements of social sciences are welcome. The same applies to projects with a systemic approach comprising ecological cycles and connections among various forms of plant cultivation and animal husbandry, not least aquaculture and agriculture.
The Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (Formas), the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research (Mistra) and Lantmännens forskningsstiftelse (the research foundation of the Swedish Farmers’ Supply and Crop Marketing Organisation) all have long-term commitments in the thematic area this call covers. Mistra is open to remaining involved in the form of traditional Mistra programmes, in the whole or parts of the thematic area, at a later stage, depending on how successful the research is and what needs of further knowledge are identified in the course of the work.
