More environmental research with strategic asset management
When Mistra was founded in 1994, the foundation received SEK 2.5 billion in capital. Prudent investments and good return have resulted in Mistra’s capital growing and now exceeding its starting amount – while several billions of Swedish kronor have been invested in various research initiatives.
Since 2007, all of Mistra’s assets have been invested according to sustainability criteria and with a long-term perspective. Rules for how the assets should be managed are defined in the investment policy.
It is important that knowledge and results from Mistra’s research initiatives are distributed and used in the financial sector to promote more sustainable asset management. Mistra has initiated a number of reports known as Investor Briefs, with the aim of, based on research, increasing investors’ knowledge in order to run companies in a sustainable direction.
Over the years, Mistra has launched several research programmes concerning sustainable asset management. In 2015, Mistra established the active international research centre Misum – Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets at the Stockholm School of Economics. The initiative aims to increase understanding of – and steer the transition to – sustainable markets and serve as a hub for researchers, decision makers, companies and other stakeholders.
In 2022, Mistra is starting two new research programmes focusing on biodiversity and the financial system – Mistra BIOPATH at Lund University and Mistra Biodiversity Finance Programme (FinBio) at Stockholm University.
Mistra also invites participation in conversations and discussions between researchers and actors in the financial sector.
Information about Mistra’s portfolio and return is available in Mistra’s annual reports.
